Pasta

Exchange programme for Food Tech

Get in-depth knowledge of flavour, smell, texture and nutritional values of food products, and use it to create and market your own.

Students in lab

Belgium is no land of milk and honey. It's so much better than that: it's the country of chocolate. Beer. Belgian fries (no, they're not French, don't get us started). In our Food Tech programme, we break down different kinds of food categories and analyse them up to microbiological level.

What will I learn?

More than ever, we get our food outdoors. Only few of us grow their own fruits and vegetables, our butcher provides us with meat, and we load pasta, sauces and cereal in our carts at the supermarket. To make sure all these products taste good, have nutritional value and are of excellent quality, we need food technologists. You, that is.

Food technologists break down products from sight to the effect its components have on our bodies. They can analyse it, but they can also influence it to make it healthier or more appealing to eat. The five senses (smell, flavour, texture, touch and even how it sounds - think about crispy toast) have an important impact on how we (dis)like food. In our Food Tech programme, you get a taste of quality control and quality analysis. How does quality control work? How do I check if food has the correct microbiological quality? What about texture, sugar content, nutritional value?

Given these specifics, you can execute qualitative quality control, improve sustainable food production and create your own products. Entrepreneurship is an important part in this programme and we give you all the tools to launch your own tasty product.
